In that time I've seen thousands of pieces pass through the workshop. Engagement rings. Family bracelets worn thin with decades of love. Vintage pieces with stonework you simply don't see made any more.

I started noticing the same pattern. Standard online gold buyers the ones advertising on television were buying jewellery in enormous volume and doing the same thing to almost all of it: weighing it, calculating the gold content, and melting it down.

Not because it was broken. Not because it was unwearable.Simply because that's the most efficient way to process large numbers of items quickly.

I had a ring come across my bench once — a beautiful 18ct piece set with old-cut diamonds. The customer had been quoted GBP180. Properly assessed and restored, that ring was worth north of GBP600. That company would have melted it.

Once a piece goes into a melting pot, the craftsmanship is gone. The history is gone. Forever. That's what drove me to create a different kind of service.
